Washington, DC — Today, the Energy Fairness board announced that Shawn Taylor, Executive Director of the Wyoming Rural Electric Association (WREA), will fill an open position on the board made vacant through the recent resignation of Bill Verner. Verner recently retired after serving a 35 year-plus tenure at the non-profit Georgia Electric Membership Corporation, culminating in his position as the Senior Vice President for External Affairs.
“Our organization salutes Bill for his more than 40 years of dedication to delivering affordable and reliable power to customers and, more importantly, wishes him well in retirement,” said Cline Jones, Chairman of Energy Fairness. “We look forward to working with Shawn and benefitting from his vast experience in the energy industry as we continue our mission of educating policymakers and the public about the realities of electricity generation.”
Shawn Taylor has served as the Executive Director of WREA for more than 15 years. Prior to his tenure at WREA, he served with distinction as a congressional aide on the U.S. Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee.
“Access to affordable and reliable energy is critical to the economy and supports the livelihoods of the electric cooperative customers I represent, explained Taylor. “I’m looking forward to being part of the Energy Fairness family and advocating for pro-consumer, common-sense energy policies nationwide.”
Taylor will be the first member of the board to be based west of the Mississippi. For more than a decade, Energy Fairness has weighed in on important energy issues across the West, including net metering, renewable energy projects, and deregulation efforts that have become bellwethers for regulators and policymakers nationwide.
“The addition of Shawn Taylor to the Energy Fairness board signals our serious commitment to maintaining our national voice on energy matters,” said Paul Griffin, Energy Fairness Executive Director. “His experience in delivering affordable and reliable power to some of the most rural communities in the U.S. only deepens our value to the decision-makers who are creating our energy future.”
